VINIFIED AND REFINED IN CLAY JARS
Marujo is an example of how successfully ancient methods can be projected and recreated into the future. Marujo is made out of Syrah grapes that we recently planted over one hectare of our vineyard and that is vinified and refined in clay jars. The Syrah is not a native grape from Tuscany but follows the steps of the ancient Etruscans that were the first viticulturists of the south of Tuscany.
The name represents our philosophy: Marujo means ‘mariner’ in portuguese, meaning that person on a boat that works hard and with dedication.
Marujo was born in 2012, originally refined with two distinct methodologies: part in barrels and part in jars. After the 2013 harvest, we decided to continue only with the refinement in jars, with a long skin and grape seeds maceration throughout the whole production. The clay jar allows optimal conditions for the wine’s evolution, letting all the peculiar characteristics of variety to emerge. The oxygenation is limited in respect to the one that happens in wooden containers, however it is guaranteed by the micro-porosity of the clay jars.
Marujo is a deep and brilliant red ruby wine. Excellent and complex bouquet that varies from red fruits with earthy fragrances, black pepper and leather to the floral scent of violets. Excellent acidity and sapidity.
Perfect pairing with roasted or grilled spicy meat, game meat or aged cheese
